Hospitals across the country implement a variety of information technology solutions with the hope of improving patient outcomes while managing skyrocketing healthcare costs. Far too often, however, it’s not clear what benefits, if any, such solutions bring.

To measure whether ClinicalPath, Elsevier's leading evidence-based oncology pathways solution, could help solve these challenges, Cone Health Cancer Center implemented ClinicalPath, performed an analysis, and presented the results during a poster session at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual conference. Researchers presented their findings regarding both costs and outcomes for nearly 7,000 patients. They found that:

    • When treated on-pathway, patients were half as likely to die within 3, 6 or even 12 months of when the treatment began. (1)

    • The use of ClinicalPath had a significant positive impact on their contribution margins. (1)
